Perch (2014) A collaboration between Catherine Clover with experimental vocal artist Alice Hui-Sheng Chang and percussionist Vanessa Tomlinson Opening: Thursday 31 July 6-8pm, Exhibition Dates: Wednesday 30 July - Saturday 2 August investigates the connection between site-specific sound, installation and collaborative performance. Catherine Clover creates an immersive sound environment inspired by BLINDSIDE’s view overlooking Federation Square. Her installation will sonically reconsider the gallery space from an avian perspective—a hidden architectural perch from which to survey the city centre. Informed by her ongoing research into bird calls, Clover will use ornithological sound as her own kind of squawked and chirped language through which to engage in collaboration. Like a sound art nature documentary, other experimental musicians, and performance and sound artists will be invited into Clover’s roost to respond to her looped installation with performances of their own. The exhibition will thus be as much about the sonic experience as it is about site itself and the building of social and artistic relationships through sound. Collaborators include percussionist Vanessa Tomlinson and experimental vocal artist Alice Hui-Sheng Chang. |
